Matcha!

Good morning! I'm not usually a multiple-short-posts-per-day blogger, but I just have to share my first foodie experience of the day!

It's currently 6:20 local time, and we're up and raring to go. I actually woke up naturally at 2:30am after only four hours of sleep; Kat jinxed me with her comment about jet lag last night :p But I forced myself back to sleep until 5:45, when the light woke me up again. I had a grumbling tummy, but the hotel won't serve breakfast until 7am. So I dove into the cupboard, where I had noticed complimentary packets of tea. When I tore one open, I was very confused to sea no bag inside. Fortunately I cracked it open further to look, or I would have missed the powder at the bottom.

To a lot of people powdered green tea (matcha) is no novelty, but to me it is! I was a little nervous, because I had heard it was strong and took some getting used to...

What I heard is a lie. This tea was amazing! It was just flavorful enough to wake me up, but not overpowering. The green tea here has a lot more "umami" than the stuff in the States, which I actually discovered when I took a sip of a cold version on the plane and didn't encounter the bitterness I was expecting. The flavor is deeper, rounder, and meatier...if you like that adjective applied to your tea :D

Now we pack, check last minute directions, and get going. I'm sorry I won't have time to read many of your blogs during these next few weeks, but I'll spot check and comment from time to time!
